Poetry Analysis

Here are the handouts I gave you about how to analyse poetry.  You can click on the images to make them bigger.


A Haiku is a style of Japanese  poetry with 3 lines and 17 syllables.

The first line has 5 syllables, the second line has 7 syllables, and the third line has 5 syllables.

Here is an example:


Haikus are easy

But sometimes they don’t make sense



Here is another example:


Falling to the ground

I watch a leaf settle down

In a bed of brown
